University of Missouri

The University of Missouri (MU) is one of the top ten universities in the U.S. in plant and animal science. Proud to sustain a tradition of community engagement around the state, MU facilitates innovative projects within and beyond its campus classrooms. Armed with the motto, “Live Like Your Life Depends On It,” Nutrition Extension educators provide information on healthy eating and lifestyles to more than 350,000 Missourians annually. Similarly, more than 75 percent of Missouri schoolchildren participate in nutrition and physical activity programming. Key projects equip low-income residents with the knowledge and strategies needed to make healthy choices, provide consumer guides to fresh and seasonal produce, and combine arts and education to share healthy food messages with children through programs such as 4-H.

MU Extension and local stakeholders also launched the Mississippi River Hills Association, a non-profit organization that provides resources for farmers, winemakers, artisans, and tourism officials who promote Missouri’s products and culture along the scenic river. An Extension faculty team works side-by-side with the MRHA board to develop and provide resources and education to partners and local businesses.

At the Festival, visitors tried the new “Seasonal and Simple” mobile app, experienced a simulated “Taste of Place” tour, and learned more about the Show-Me State’s local foods and culture.
