Dan and Claudia Zanes have a thing with trains. Dan won his first GRAMMY for the album Catch That Train!in 2006, and together they created Night Train 57: A Sensory Friendly Comic Folk Opera, which premiered at the Kennedy Center in 2017.

So, it makes sense that at a Smithsonian Folkways concert honoring the legacy of Pete Seeger, the duo would decide to cover a classic American folk song, “Rock Island Line.” Their rendition at the 2019 Folklife Festival had visitors young and old dancing along on a mighty good road.

Hear a studio recording and other classics on the Dan Zanes and Friends album Lead Belly, Baby!(Smithsonian Folkways 2017).
