During the 2014 Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Makadem, a genuine entertainer, amused audiences with his "Anglo-Ohangla" style, a fusion of traditional Luo music and modern beats. In "Sawasawa" (meaning "It's OK" in Kiswahili), he sings about a love story of a humble man with humorous and witty lyrics.
