  • Making Community in Music: A D.C. Music Map Conversation and Upload-a-Thon

    When: Sunday, June 27, 12:45–1 p.m. ET
    Where: Streaming online
    Category: Narrative Session
    Accessibility:

What role does music play in making community? As part of the DC Listening Lounge’s annual Sound Scene festival, join Smithsonian producer Nichole Procopenko in a conversation about the D.C. Music Map (produced by the Smithsonian Folklife Festival and populated by the community). Throughout the weekend, we also invite you to participate in a coordinated community upload session to contribute your own audio recordings and images that are meaningful to you and your neighborhood.

Sound Scene is an all-ages, free sound festival that celebrates the creative audio community in Washington, D.C., and around the world. This year, events take place in person at Union Market D.C. on Saturday, June 26, and virtually on Sunday, June 27. Registration for both is required.
