Artists from the Karen Weaving Circle, based in Minnesota, demonstrate a traditional Burmese rice porridge called takataw. A blend of dried meat, greens, and other vegetables, this dish became a symbol of sustenance as refugees adapted by incorporating wild herbs from the forest.
This event will happen in-person, live on the National Mall, during the Smithsonian Folklife Festival on July 2-7, 2025. It will be livestreamed for online audiences and remain archived on our YouTube channel and website.
